Hello,
I grew up in Redwood City in District 3. In 2020, I received the high honor of being elected to represent my community on the city council to help steer us through some of the toughest times in modern history.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted all of our lives and exacerbated ongoing inequalities, from access to healthcare to housing. Protests emerged in Redwood City like the rest of the country to address police brutality. And residents were hit hard by historic rains and massive wildfires caused by climate change.
As a caregiver and LGBTQ+ Latine, I have struggled alongside many of you through this. But my support and advocacy for labor unions, tenant protections, and racial and climate justice has been unwavering. Protecting our community from corporate greed and bad landlords has been my biggest priority and I promise to continue my steadfast devotion to our safety and wellness.
During my term, I:
Introduced hazard pay for grocery store workers
Approved the conversion of three motels into emergency shelters and permanent supportive housing and supported stronger tenant and mobile home protections
Approved shifting away from using police to utilizing civilians to conduct homeless outreach and non-emergency traffic enforcement
Have focused on electrifying our fleets and buildings, studying strategies to address sea level rise, promoting active transportation, and increasing efforts to reach residents in Environmental Justice communities
Introduced a ballot measure to reform our business tax to help us cover our deficit due to the pandemic while alleviating the burden on small businesses, and raising rates for big businesses
